On January 21, we packed up some hot chocolate, granola bars, and bottled water before heading out the door to attend our very first Presidential Inauguration. We loved experiencing this historic event in person, right on the National Mall! We walked from our apartment in Rosslyn, across the Memorial Bridge, past the Lincoln Memorial, past the Washington Monument, and found a spot next to the Smithsonian Castle. It was a nice walk and we didn’t have to worry about public transportation or getting up at 4:00 AM to wait in the cold! Here are some pics:
Secret service on the roof of the Museum of Natural History and on top of the Smithsonian Castle.
CNN camera and live broadcast.
The crowd dispersing after the program. So glad we are not taking the Metro.
Military keeping us in line as we cross Constitution Ave.
Planes flying over us on the Memorial Bridge.
The Kennedy Center and the Potomac.
Theodore Roosevelt Island, the Key Bridge, and Georgetown University.
