After driving from Old Wardour Castle, we arrive at the most charming village with thatched roof beach cottages. We park at the parking lot at the trail head on the hill and walk a steep path down to Durdle Door and the beach. The views were absolutely amazing! We hike down to the beach. No sand, just small smooth pebbles. We find a spot to sit on beach and eat snacks, the boys sword fight, and we walk along the beach to see the white cliffs. Cows are grazing on the steep green pastures on top of the cliffs! It is so beautiful! The sunset casts a warm glow over everything from the stone arch, beach, to the cliffs. If is the most beautiful evening! After watching the sunset, we make the steep hike back to the parking lot, then drive home and listen to Audible while the kids falls asleep. We arrive home and put kids to bed. Goodnight!
Things to Know: Durdle Door
*Visiting Durdle Door is FREE and open to the public
*Car park fees apply
*15 minute walk along a steep downhill path, plus a further 143 steps down onto the beach
*Shoes are needed for the walk to and on the pebble beaches. Swimming can be dangerous. The beaches shelve steeply and there is a strong under-tow. Take care on the shoreline because sudden large waves can engulf persons at the water’s edge – this has caused fatalities. Do not sit near to the cliffs – danger of rockfalls.
*No lifeguard on duty. Watch children at all times.
*Dogs welcome all year off lead, however please be sure to pick up after them. There are no bins on the beach – the nearest ones are in the car park.
*There are no toilets on or adjacent to the beach. Toilets are available in the car park, a very steep 15-minute walk uphill from the beach
*Not recommended for wheelchair users, mobility scooters or those who have mobility problems.
*Views of Durdle Door are not possible from the car park.
