Cole’s Recap, Day 3 Continued: C hails taxi. Off to Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion). Short ride. Exit taxi. Walk towards temple. Big bell. BK want to ring. Make donations to earthquake. Little boy rings bell. Cute. K rings bell. Buy tickets. Enter grounds. Come around curve. Very gold. Green pond. Perfect light. Photographer’s dream. Shutters snap. B more intrigued by wood fence and gate than he is by pavilion. Wander grounds. More pictures. Throwing coins. V throws her coin into the pot on her first try. B second try. K fails. C tries once. Fails. More coin throwing. C bets B he can’t make it on first try. B makes it. C pays 500 yen. B laughs. Continue walking. Wasabi peas. Chocolate truffles. BV hungry. C instructs they must see one more temple before food. Tummies growl. C hails taxi.

*Kinkakuji is a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan

*It is one of the most famous and recognized buildings in Kyoto

*The top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf

*The Golden Pavilion is open everyday from 9 am to 5 pm every day of the year

*For a small fee you can ring the giant traditional temple bell which is rung by a wooden log

*Toss coins at designates stone statues of Buddha for good luck and fortune. We heard that if your coin makes it into the cup in the first toss, your wish is granted.
