On May 31, we woke up bright and early to pack and load the Fiat. We had breakfast at the B&B which included granola cereal, croissants with strawberry jam, strawberries and blueberries, cranberry juice and a full English breakfast for Cole which consisted of eggs, bacon (but really ham), sausage, the biggest mushroom ever, a grilled tomato, and granary toast with OJ and cranberry juice. After running some errands and lunch in Bath, we went back to Cole’s favorite cupcake shop to take some treats with us for our drive to Bourton-on-the-Water, a village in Gloucestershire located in the Cotswolds. It was such a scenic and beautiful town! Along the main road, a stream ran down a charming street with restaurants and a park with playing children, ducks and families picnicking and enjoying the sun! We checked into our B&B, parked the Fiat and settled into a nice room. After unloading our things, we walked to the grocery store to buy milk and found a sunny place to sit and eat our Bath cupcakes on the grass. I tried to convince Cole to nap on the grass with me (first trimester pregnancy fatigue) but Cole wouldn’t let me. He was much too excited to get going on our hike to the Upper and Lower Slaughters (considered two of the prettiest villages in the Cotswolds). And I’m glad we did the hike. It was so amazing, so beautiful, and so perfect! By time we returned to Bourton-on-the-Water, all the restaurants had closed with the exception of one Chinese restaurant around the corner from our B&B. We were so nervous about eating there but went anyway. They had a huge menu and the food was in fact delicious and perfect! I got to speak Chinese to the manager and waiters who were all very nice and friendly and the entire dinner was so cheap! We went home, made hot cocoa and ate shortbread and biscotti before bed. Such a fun day!
