Arriving in York, England

On June 4 we woke up for breakfast at the B&B in Wales (we had granary toast w/ butter and jam, orange juice, baked beans, bacon, fried egg, tomato and sausage), packed up our things, checked out, and loaded up the Fiat parked in the narrow alleyway. We walked down the street to find some last minute souvenirs and postcards and we were thrilled to see it was going to be a beautiful sunny day! I sat on the steps of the police station to enjoy the sunshine while Cole wrote and mailed off his postcards. We made one final stop at SPAR to pick up some lunch items (strawberries, cheese, crackers, bottled water, carrots, green beans, pears, etc.) then we were on the road again, this time heading to York. On our way, we stopped at a highway rest stop to eat lunch in the parking lot, and we also passed by the city of Leeds on our drive. The GPS on Cole’s phone guided us right to the hotel parking lot which was perfect. We parked, checked in (after sorting out a mixed up reservation with a Dr. Christensen) and finally dropped off our bags in our hotel room. The room was in the attic of a house on a quiet street. It was a nice attic room but really stuffy, so we opened all the windows to get the breeze flowing. The house also had a kitchen and laundry which was nice. After dropping off our things and resting a little bit, we went for a walk to see the city walls. York was so interesting! It has a spooky element and you feel like you are in a Sherlock Holmes story. The streets are old, grimy, medieval, with boutiques and shops and restaurants. We sat on a bench outside the Minster, looking at a map and deciding where to go next. I was craving Asian food for some reason (pregnancy cravings), so Cole searched the map and found an Asian restaurant for us to try. We walk down the street towards the restaurant, stopping in to check out the shops. Some of our favorites were a shop selling swords and armory, a shop selling pretty china and dishes, and of course we bought more postcards. After dinner (which was good, but the restaurant was kind of weird…more like a bar run by dirty teenagers) we walked around the shops a while longer, went to see the castle, and saw some teenagers get into a fist fight in an alley way. By then we were feeling pretty exhausted from all our traveling that day, so we headed back to the B&B to get some sleep.
