‘Tis the season for crisp autumn weather and apple orchards! Fall is always my favorite season. In September we like to head over to the apple orchards for some apple picking with our little Minnesotans. The leaves are golden and the skies blue. It’s prime time for apple picking, snacking on apple cider donuts, and sipping hot apple cider.
We have so many fantastic apple orchards in Stillwater and the surrounding areas. Whether picking for Haralsons or Honey Golds, you will find something delicious and fun. Many apple orchards we have been to also have hayrides, tractors, petting zoos, corn pits, elaborate playgrounds, or even host special Apple Festival events.
Things to Know: Apple Picking in Stillwater
*Stillwater and surrounding areas are home to several fantastic apple orchards.
*Aamodt’s Apple Orchard is perhaps one of the best known in Stillwater. Family owned since 1948, the orchard also has wagon rides, a little goat farm, food and drink, wine and hard ciders, bakery, and store. Check online for schedule of events and pricing.
*Sunnybrook Apple Orchard is a cute new orchard in Stillwater that we came across while on a bike ride. They feature pick your own SweeTango, Zestar, Chestnut Crab, Honeycrisp, and more. In addition to the orchard and shop, there is about a mile of trails you are welcome to enjoy on your visit. Check online for schedule and pricing.
*Pine Tree Apple Orchard is a 20 min scenic drive through farmland from downtown Stillwater. The orchard has pre-picked apples only. Their homemade bakery is full of specialty goodies and they are famous for their pies like Apple Crunch! Our kids have visited on school field trips, and we visit their delicious bakery almost yearly. They also feature a corn maze, pick your own pumpkins, fresh cider, and special events. *Afton Apple Orchard is about a 30 min drive from downtown Stillwater located on about 250 acres in the heart of the St Croix Valley. Enjoy their 15-acre corn maze, hayrides, extensive playground (one of our kids’ favorites), petting farm, bakery, and retail shop. Check online for schedule and pricing.
*Whistling Well Farm is a cute apple orchard located in the beautiful St Croix River Valley, two miles from Afton State Park. Admission to the orchard and parking are FREE, as well as the use of a complimentary wagon for apple picking. At the time of our visit they had a gorgeous assortment of fall mums, pumpkins, and gourds. The kids also enjoyed feeding the chickens in the coop! Check online for schedule and pricing.

To top it all off, the boys come home and make apple pie from scratch – pie crust and all! It’s the most delicious apple pie I ever tasted. Absolute bliss!
