Nerstrand Big Woods State Park, Minnesota

We enjoyed a day trip to Nerstrand Big Woods State Park a few weeks ago. The area was settled by Norwegian immigrants who named it after their hometown in Norway. The Big Woods refers to a type of temperate hardwood forest in western Wisconsin and south-central Minnesota and is a direct translation of the name given by French explorers. It is a great place to explore in the autumn months!

Tips:

*Located about 1 hour south of the Twin Cities

*Hidden Falls is a 20 foot limestone waterfall hidden along the boardwalk trail

*Beautiful destination for autumn hikes, spring flowers, and snowshoeing
