Spring in Minnesota means waterfall season! In the months of March and April, we love getting away to chase waterfalls all around the state. Here is a roundup of some of our favorite roadtrips to see waterfalls in the spring season!

1. GOOSEBERRY FALLS STATE PARK, MINNESOTA

Gooseberry Falls is one of the most popular state parks in Minnesota. Also known as the gateway to Minnesota’s North Shore, Gooseberry Falls is a popular attraction year round. We loved the quick and easy hike to the waterfalls – perfect for a fun and scenic stop!

2. WILLOW RIVER STATE PARK, HUDSON, WISCONSIN

Waterfalls, caves, and hiking make for a great day outdoors at Willow River State Park in Hudson, Wisconsin! The powerful cascading waterfalls is a highlight in all seasons.

3. TEMPERANCE RIVER STATE PARK, MINNESOTA

The Temperance River is the longest river on Minnesota’s North Shore. Follow this hiking trail along the river as it flows through dramatic gorges, waterfalls, and potholes. It is such a fun, beautiful, and impressive hike and definitely one of our favorites in Minnesota! 

4. MINNEHAHA FALLS, MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA

Minnehaha Falls is a 53 foot wilderness waterfall in an urban setting. The falls are located in one of Minneapolis’ oldest and most famous parks which attracts over 850,000 visitors annually.

5. HIDDEN FALLS, NERSTRAND BIG WOODS STATE PARK, MINNESOTA

Hidden Falls is a 20 foot limestone waterfall hidden in Nerstrand Big Woods State Park. Enjoy a nice hike to this scenic waterfall in any season.

6. JAY COOKE STATE PARK, MINNESOTA

Jay Cooke State Park is located about 10 miles outside Duluth and is one of Minnesota’s most popular state parks. A swinging bridge spans the St. Louis River with views of the cascades and rapids.  

7. HIGH FALLS, TETTEGOUCHE STATE PARK, MINNESOTA

Tettegouche State Park on Minnesota’s North Shore is one of our most favorite places in the entire state. High Falls located on the Baptism River is one of Minnesota’s highest waterfalls and must-see attractions. Hike to the falls from the Tettegouche Visitor Center and enjoy from either the Upper or Lower High Falls view points.

8. KAKABEKA FALLS, ONTARIO, CANADA

From Minnesota drive to the Canadian border to see Kakabeka Falls in Ontario, Canada. The impressive 130 ft waterfall is nicknamed “Niagara of the North” and is the second largest waterfall in Ontario after Niagara Falls. The name “Kakabeka” comes from the Ojibwe word meaning “waterfall over a cliff”. We loved viewing the waterfalls with our kids from the many viewing platforms.
