National Palace Museum in Taipei, Taiwan

For a rainy day in Taipei, we decided to visit the National Palace Museum. We started with breakfast at the underground mall at Taipei Main Station. The kids wanted to stop at Mister Donuts. Cole and I found giant steamed buns from Bao So Hard. It was so delicious! The kids loved them too. We met our family back in the hotel lobby. It was pouring rain outside. We take taxis to the National Palace Museum since it would be a fantastic indoor activity for a rainy day. When we arrived at the museum the rain had already stopped and there was beautiful mist on the mountain tops. We enjoy the view from the patio outside the museum overlooking the gardens. There is also a nearby cafe. Inside the museum we explore the fascinating exhibits and find the famous “baby-shaped pillow”, “lotus-shaped bowl”, and “meat-shaped stone”. Sadly the famous jade cabbage is currently located at the museum’s south branch. During out visit we also make sure to stop by the kid’s gallery on the lower level. Our kids enjoyed the hands-on exhibits including stamping and coloring. They were also able to display their art on the 3D projector which was very cool! Finally, the boys wanted to find a gallery with swords and weapons and of course they were totally enthralled. After a full day exploring the exhibits, we pick up a quick snack for the kids at the museum cafe (three pieces of thick toast with strawberry jam to go) and went outside to sit on a bench on the museum’s patio. The kids were so happy and ready to move on the our next adventure.
