San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

The day after Christmas, we flew to beautiful San Miguel de Allende.  This gorgeous city is located 6,000 ft up in the Sierra Madre mountain range in central Mexico.  San Miguel was founded in 1541 and was the first city to declare independence from Spanish rule during the Mexican War of Independence.  It has become a popular destination for Mexican and foreign tourist alike who come to enjoy the city’s well-preserved Colonial and Baroque architecture, colorful arts, delicious food, and 70 degree weather all year round.  Here are some photos from our first day in San Miguel.

Unique doors and door knockers on every street.

Bright colored piñatas everywhere.

We stayed in a beautiful house called Casa del Mesquite Añoso.  Every morning we would have huevos a la Mexicana, sliced avocados and tomatoes with olive oil, fresh squeezed orange juice, and toast with jelly.

In the evening we walked to the center of town for dinner and to see La Parroquia, the parish of San Miguel.
