Calligraphy at National Dong Hwa University in Hualien, Taiwan

Laundry day! We take the kids to wash clothes at a laundromat near National Dong Hwa University campus. We load the machines, then a few of us go to Dong Hwa University’s student cafeteria for lunch. My aunt teaches calligraphy at the university and we were excited to visit her school. The cafeteria has a long line of buffet style food. We take a plate, a set of tongs, and choose our food as we make our way down the line. There are signs that read: no talking while picking your food. We weigh our food and pay, then find a table with a view of the campus. The food is very good with a nice healthy selection. The kids eat so well. We meet a few of my aunt’s colleagues and talk about their travels to the USA. After lunch we get to have our own calligraphy class with my aunt. We have so much fun and the kids do a great job writing Chinese. Azhou also writes her name beautifully. My aunt gives each of us a hand written bookmark with our names in calligraphy on it. It is such a special gift from our amazing day together.
