Before moving away, Cole made it a goal to hike the highest mountain in Virginia. With a summit elevation of 5,729 feet, Mount Rogers is the highest point in the state. The hike is especially popular with hikers because the Appalachian Trail passes within a half mile of the summit. The area is also home to several herds of wild ponies which hikers frequently encounter along the way. The weather was cold and windy, but we enjoyed lots of sunshine and breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
A dog, a foul, and pony on the trail:
We reached the summit!
It was so cold at night!
Hot breakfast in the morning, then back to DC. What a fun trip!
