We spent Labor Day weekend camping, hiking, and playing on the beach in Door County, Wisconsin. Located on the peninsula between Green Bay and Lake Michigan, Door County is named after the French phrase “Port des morts” or “Death’s Door” which refers to the treacherous passage between the northern point of the peninsula and Washington Island which is now scattered with shipwrecks. The New York Times called “Door County the Cape Cod of the Midwest” but people in Wisconsin say “Cape Cod is the Door County of the Northeast.” We fell in love with the area and had the most magical weekend together as a family. Can’t wait to go back!
Crystal clear waters at Cave Point County Park on Lake Michigan:
Cliff diving and kayaking. Cave Point County Park was definitely one of my favorite spots!
Goats grazing on the roof of Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant. We love their Swedish pancakes and pyttipanna!
The beautiful Village of Ephraim and a stop at Wilson’s for cheeseburgers and a slice with pie and ice cream!
We went on a hike through Newport State Park at the tip of Door Peninsula on Lake Michigan. Newport is Wisconsin’s only wilderness designated state park. The boys loved pretending they were on a bear hunt (like in their favorite book) and we had a great time!
