Summer in England: A Day in Bristol for Boats, Burgers & Banksy

After breakfast, making beds, prayers, and school work, we get ready for the day and took a taxi to Bath train station and rode the train to Bristol. From Bath it was only 15 mins to Bristol! We exit Bristol Temple Mead station and walked to the City Center. We walked through parks and saw old pubs on streets near the harbor from the 1600’s. A friend recommended Three Brother’s Burgers for lunch. The restaurant is located on the dock with the kitchen on the boat in the water. The food was delicious and the price was a good lunch deal! The kids take forever to finish eating and I wanted to go explore. I chat with our server about recommendations on where to go, and she recommended walking along the water to the M Shed Museum and SS Great Britain. Great idea! We finish lunch, walk along the water, cross the bridge, see beautiful boats and colorful houses, and walk to the M Shed. The museum offers free admission, and we got a quick tour, saw two Banksy works of art, and the kids enjoyed the exhibits After our visit we exited the M Shed and walked along the harbor to the SS Great Britain. The kids could not believe their eyes! They were so excited to see the ship and asked “can we go in it?” We go to get tickets and through the gift shop which the boys thought was amazing because of all the model ships, ships in bottles, books, and treasure chests. Then we continued on to the exhibit entrance where we found a place to emboss the kids’ passenger tickets, and continue on to tour the ship. There are so many rooms and a total of three decks to explore. The kids played on the ship forever! At the end of our visit, before leaving, we visited the dry dock and saw the hull and giant propeller. At closing time, we left the SS Great Britain and the kids enjoyed climbing on the giant anchors outside by the water. We walked back toward the train station but the kids have tired feet and are super hungry. They were tough and powered through and we arrived at train station and I was so proud of them for walking so much. I give them granola bars and water on the bench at the platform while we wait for the train back to Bath. V orders dinner while C comes home from Newcastle (after being delayed in Birmingham) but has to immediately hop on a work call. The kids and I enjoy dinner and get ready for bed! Such a fun day in Bristol!

Bristol Temple Meads railway station:

This is a map of Bristol we found at the train station. Having never been to this city before I had no idea what to expect. I was so glad and relieved that all the city’s major attractions were within a 15 minute walk!

Bristol has a rich maritime history. I loved seeing all the old pubs along the water:
