Day Trip to St. Andrews, Scotland

On the morning of June 10th we caught a train to St. Andrews. It was a cold, cloudy, and rainy day. We took the bus from the train station to the town center and had lunch at the Grill House. We spent the afternoon walking around town, eating “fudge donuts” from Fisher & Donaldson patisserie, playing a round at the Himalayas putting course (run by the St. Andrews Ladies Putting Club), walking around the University of St. Andrews, the beach, the castle, and cathedral ruins.  We also ate at Ma Bell’s (reported to be one of Prince William’s favorite places to eat). We shared a bread board (warm crusty bread served with pesto, vinegar, and hummus for dipping/spreading), cup of tomato basil soup, and a club sandwich (with bacon, chicken, and egg salad mayo) with side of chips (or fries rather). It was sooooo good! Our best meal yet hands down! We ended our trip to St. Andrews with a scoop of gelato from Janetta’s before taking the train back to Edinbugh.

The fudge doughnut…so amazing!

On our self guided walking tour we found this gem. “Butts Wynd”, haha:

St. Andrews Links, the home of golf. The game has been played here since the 15th century:

£2 each to play 18 holes with equipment rental at the putting course:

I won! I won!! (I never beat Cole at anything!)

The beautiful University of St. Andrews:

The castle ruins on the beach:

Ruins of the nave:

25 flavors to choose from at Jannetta’s gelato shop! Cole had blueberry cheesecake and raspberry swirl while I went with the raspberry sorbet. So delicious…What a fun, fun day in St. Andrews!
