On June 2 we woke up for breakfast at the B&B (cereal, croissant with strawberry jam, mixed fruit, apple juice, eggs and ‘bacon’, chocolate croissants, and toast) then picked up our clean laundry (a free service offered by the B&B! Awesome!) As Cole prepared the maps and got ready for the day, I was exhausted and took a nap (I napped so much in first trimester pregnancy!) We went to store to pick up lunch items for our hike then drove to Guiting Power where we parked and hiked through Guiting Wood. There was such beautiful scenery, homes, stone walls, wild flowers, sunshine, blue skies, sheep and lambs. We had lunch by a creek where we sat and ate baby bell cheese with table water crackers, bread, apples, plums, and chocolate covered hazelnuts. We continued hiking and saw deer, foxes, quail, pheasants, bunnies, and lots of sheep and little lambs. We were also attacked by a dog named Alfie. It was a beautiful and fun day. In the evening we returned to Burton-on-the-Water and walked along the town’s main road and checked out restaurant menus for dinner. The Kingsbridge Pub looked good, but the bar tender informed us that they had sold out of a few things, including all main dishes, burgers, fish, and salads (so basically everything but side orders and desserts). We walk out, got to the end of the street and checked out a place called The Old Manse Hotel English pub. The menu looked surprisingly good and the prices were quite cheap. We ordered some drinks recommended by the bar tender – Bottlegreen strawberry and elderflower with sparkling water and ice (sooo good) and bramley apple ginger cider. For dinner Cole ordered the special – the Sunday roast with beef, roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes and a large Yorkshire pudding (first time seeing Yorkshire pudding!) and I had their “award winning” hand battered haddock fish with chips, lemon wedge, tartar sauce and garden peas. After our delicious dinner, we walked back to our hotel and I made Cole nap before we got up and drove to Chedworth for a sunset hike and see the Roman Villa. It was a beautiful sunset and evening. We drove back to the B&B and spent the evening planning our trip to Wales the next day.
