Marquette Harbor Lighthouse & Sunset Point, Michigan

We just returned from a week traveling in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan as we bid farewell to summer! I can’t wait to share what adventures we found there. From Minnesota, we drove through Wausau, Wisconsin and onto Marquette, Michigan. In total the drive was a little over 6 hours. We were totally happy listening to audio books and eating snacks the whole way until we arrived and checked into our hotel in Marquette. The weather was noticeably cooler than when we left Minnesota and we arrived as the sun was beginning to set. We decided it was the perfect opportunity to see a few of the sights in Marquette before dinner and bed. First we drove to Marquette Harbor Lighthouse on Lake Superior. I wanted to see the pretty red lighthouse on the beach and the kids wanted to run and play. It was beautiful and quiet and we had the beach to ourselves. Cole watched the time and as the sun was about the set, he wanted to show us Sunset Point at Presque Isle Park. It is known as one of the best viewing spots to watch the sunset fall behind the horizon. We arrived just in time! It was one of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever seen. The red orange sun slowly sank behind the trees and the sky glowed with pinks and yellows. Marquette was a perfect stop as we were to continue our drive in the morning through the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
