One of the places I most wanted to visit while in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan was Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. In the morning we traveled from Marquette to Miners Castle, one of the most famous landmarks along the Pictured Rocks shoreline. We made the short walk from the car parking lot to the overlook to see Miners Castle with the clear blue-green waters and beautiful rock formations below. From there we continued on to hike down the stairs and steeper hill to the lower overlook as well. My kids loved the hike and we met lots of furry friends as the trail is dog friendly as well. Miners Castle is the perfect stop for anyone interested in seeing the stunning beauty of the Upper Peninsula. I highly recommend it!

*It is the only cliff area in the park accessible by vehicle
*Leashed pets permitted
*One of the two turrets of Miners Castle collapsed and fell into the lake in 2006
*The Pictured Rocks cliffs hold great spiritual significance to the Anishinaabe or Ojibwe people who have lived in this area for thousands of years
