We spent our last day in Scotland visiting museums in Edinburgh. We started with the National Museum of Scotland which houses a nice collection relating to Scottish antiquities, culture and history:
Next, we walked over to the Scottish National Gallery and enjoyed the view along the way:
The Scottish National Gallery is the national art gallery of Scotland. It is home to a collection of fine art, including Scottish and international art from the beginning of the Renaissance up to the start of the 20th century.
Cole and The Skating Minister by Sir Henry Raeburn. It was painted during the Scottish Enlightenment and is considered one of Scotland’s best known paintings and an icon of Scottish culture.
We saw Holyrood Palace, the official residence of the Monarch of the United Kingdom in Scotland. It has served as the principal residence of the Kings and Queens of Scots since the 16th century, and is a setting for state occasions and official entertaining. That evening the Queen was in residence and there was some sort of party going on.
At sunset, we hiked a little bit of Arthur’s Seat, the main peak of the group of hills which form most of Holyrood Park. We didn’t make it all the way to the top (first trimester pregnancy sickness had me feeling weak) but we really loved the views from the trail.
Sunset views of Edinburgh. What a gorgeous city! We had a wonderful time in Scotland!
