Old Faithful Geyser & Inn, Yellowstone National Park

August 30: V and S sleep in. S last one out of the tent. Cinnamon rolls made by grandparents for breakfast. Delicious! Boys ask for 2 servings! Get ready for the day. Swing boys in the hammock. Say goodbye to grandparents – they go back to Utah for an emergency. We get ready to go to Old Faithful. See giant male elk at the campsite! Rubbing his giant antlers on trees and eating lots. See a cute squirrel dragging a giant mushroom bigger than him. Get fishing license for tomorrow at the marina. Drive and park at Old Faithful. Bring snacks and eat on bench. Get Junior Ranger booklets for boys. Watch Old Faithful geyser erupt. Visit Old Faithful Inn, gift shop, ice cream at snack shop. Eat ice cream on steps outside – delicious! Drive home reading Junior Ranger book and H sleeps. Back at campsite at sunset and prep tin foil dinners. V naps in car while H naps. V wakes hearing someone talking about deer.  Look out window and see female deer or elk walking in front of the car. See the giant male elk walking next to our campsite. R and S in hammock, decide we should move them to the car to be safe. C and V prep tin foil dinners – veggies, salmon, chicken, grapes, potato chips. Eat and enjoy dinner then astronaut food – freeze dried Oreo ice cream sandwich. Get ready for bed, put kids to bed early, V gets to bed early too. C drives to get phone service and sees porcupine in the road. C actually warm at night at last (because using grandparent’s extra sleeping bag as a blanket!)
