Sakura at Night in Tokushima, Japan

Today I had a fun afternoon meeting my friend Sato sensei for lunch over omurice (Japanese omelet and fried rice) then going for a walk around Tokushima Central Park to see the sakura. The weather this afternoon was splendid and crowds of people came out to picnic under the pink cherry blossoms.

Tips:

*The land around the remains of Tokushima Castle have been turned into a well maintained and beautiful urban park

*Tokushima Central Park is complete with trees, gardens, fish, birds and cherry blossoms that come into flower in spring

*Cherry blossoms are known as sakura in Japan

*Hanami is the Japanese tradition of holding outdoor parties under blooming sakura during the day or night

*Cherry blossom season is generally late March to early April

*Cherry blossom forecasts are available each year

At night, Cole and I stopped by the park in Kamojima to see the lanterns all lit up. And we weren’t the only ones. We were surprised to see that even at night the park was crowded with people eating their dinner together under the lantern-lit sakura.
