Salzburg & the Sound of Music, Austria

Is there really a better way to see Salzburg than by taking Fraulein Maria’s Sound of Music Bicycle Tour? No, there’s really not. So, in the morning we met our tour group at Mirabella Garden and set off to explore the city.

Here’s Cole showing off his sweet ride:

Our bicycle tour took us to all the best sights in Salzburg. It is a beautiful city. These are a few of my favorite things…

We are like Rolfe and Liesl… except with a happier ending.

Lots of sights from the Sound of Music:

Is that a fortress? We will have to check that out later.

My cool mint green bike:

The Salzburg Cathedral:

Outside Fraulein Maria’s abbey. Do you remember it from the movie?

Front of the house was used in the Sound of Music:

Biking everywhere in Salzburg:

The mansion used as the von Trapp home in The Sound of Music. Remember Maria and the children tipping over their boat in that lake?

We are 16 going on 17…

Cole reenacting The Sound of Music:

A nice view from the Salzach River. Who’s that cute boy?

We stayed in Salzburg’s Old Town which was wonderful. Our hotel was literally around the corner from Mozart’s birthplace.

The Abbey Church of St. Peter:

After our awesome bicycle tour, we headed to Hohenwerfen Fortress:

Because we are so adventurous/cheap, we passed on the taking the funicular up and took the stairs instead.

Salzburg from the Fortress. Breathtaking!

Cole is thrilled that I am taking another picture of him:

Cole loves artillery:

The puppet museum. A little fun, but mostly creepy.

Here I am walking around the Fortress:

The Fortress museum:

Love that view!

In the evening we went on a hike to see the city lights. Glad we did!

It’s been fun, Salzburg. But for now we must say so long, farewell Auf Wiedersehen, goodnight. I hate to go and leave this pretty sight.

Back at our hotel with a snack after a busy day! Goodnight Salzburg!
