Star Party at the University of Utah South Physics Observatory

Did you know you can see galaxies, stars, moons, and planets through powerful telescopes every Wednesday night from the University of Utah South Physics Observatory?

I first learned about the FREE weekly star parties at the University of Utah when I took the Solar System class as an undergraduate student. Every week on clear Wednesday nights, the Department of Physics and Astronomy’s South Physics Observatory is open to the public, no matter age or background. They set up several telescopes pointing at different objects in the sky, and visitors are welcome to ask questions about science, the universe, or telescopes. They are also available to offer assistance to visitors needing help learning how to use telescopes for personal use, astrophotography, or school/science fair projects.

Since we were visiting Utah with our kids who are obsessed with planets, stars, and galaxies, the University of Utah star party was a special opportunity for them to see objects through powerful telescopes, including the dome telescope, and ask experts their curious questions. They really loved the experience! Next time we are in Utah, we will definitely look forward to attending another star party at the University of Utah South Physics Building!
