Tsukiji Fish Market, Giants Baseball & Tokyo Tower, Japan

We were out the door bright and early the morning of our second day in Tokyo. We were off to see Tsukiji Fish Market (築地市場). With over 2,000 metric tons of seafood handled per day, it is the largest fish and seafood market in the world. The market is busiest in the early hours of the morning, with everything winding down by 11:00 am.

Things to Know:

*Visit Tsukiji Fish Market for fresh seafood, sushi, and cookware such as knives

*Baseball was introduced to Japan in 1872 and is Japan’s most popular sport

*Tokyo Tower is a communications and observation tower, and is the second tallest structure in Japan

In the afternoon we saw some breathtaking views of Tokyo on our way to the Giants game. We saw the Tokyo Giants play the Hiroshima Carp at the Tokyo Dome. Baseball in Japan seems to move at a faster pace than in America.

The beer girls or biiru no uriko were hard at work. They carry a special backpack containing a beer keg on their back. They move throughout the stadium seats ready to serve beer right off the tap.

You won’t find nachos or hot dogs here. Bento boxes are the food of choice for a ball game at the Dome.

While in Dome City, we had to ride the Thunder Dolphine roller coaster. At 80 m (262 ft) tall, it is the 6th tallest roller coaster in the world. The coaster also passes through the first centerless ferris wheel in the world.

In the evening we went to see Tokyo Tower (東京タワー) all lit up at night.

The two-floor Main Observatory is located at 150 m (492 ft) and offers a 360 degree view of Tokyo.

On the first floor of the Main Observatory there are two glass floors that visitors can stand on and look to the ground below.
