Yamaguchi-ken

The saddest day… saying good-bye to B! We begged and begged him to stay, but alas to no avail. From Hiroshima, B took the shinkansen to Kansai International Airport then caught his flight back to the USA. We miss you B! After our sad farewell, we took the train to Iwakuni in Yamaguchi-ken. Cole has good memories of this place from his time as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We saw kintai-kyou, a famous wooden bridge built in 1673 which consists of five arches crossing the Nishiki River. The bridge is at the base of Yokoyama-san. At the top of the mountain is Iwakuni Castle. It was a beautiful place! No wonder it’s been declared a National Treasure!
