Yellowstone’s West Thumb Geyser Basin

September 2: Grandparents make honey butter biscuits for breakfast in Dutch Oven with hot cocoa.  Give boys surprise gifts. Drive to West Thumb Geyser Basin boardwalk along Yellowstone Lake. Picnic on grass near the parking lot (bagels, etc). Drive to general store for snacks, cokes, supplies. Drive along Yellowstone Lake, stop to see the beach, see wolf tracks. Drive back to campsite. V naps in hammock, Grandma reads, boys work on Junior Ranger packets, go for drive to get H to fall asleep. Dinner at campsite – hot dogs with cheese on top, baked beans, corn tortilla chips, and salsa. Drive to Pelican Lake for nature walk. Hike to shore, C tries fishing, beautiful sunset, boys play on the beach. Home for bed.
