The Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA) features an impressive collection of paintings, photographs, prints and drawings, textiles, architecture, and decorative arts. With approximately 80,000 objects spanning 5,000 years of world history, the MIA is considered one of the best free museums and housing “one of the finest and most comprehensive Asian art collections in the country.” As part of its 100th birthday, the MIA promised surprise masterpieces for its centennial celebration. “Woman Reading a Letter” is one of only 34 known works by 17th century Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer. It was unveiled as the first masterpiece to be on loan during the MIA’s centennial year.

*Open 10 am – 5 pm Tuesday through Sunday. Closed Mondays. Extended hours until 9 pm Thursdays.

Afterwards, we played at the museum’s Family Center. It is such a great space for families to enjoy kid-friendly books and toys or just let some energy out. I loved their children’s book collection all about art!
