June in Chicago Day 2: Monday morning in Chicago, Cole went off to work while I slept in as the boys discovered a new-to-them Disney Junior show called “Bluey” (which is now one of their all time favorites). We got ready and I took them to brunch at the Sunrise Grill. It was delicious and obviously a local favorite – every local police officer was there enjoying a meal! The food was plentiful and the staff was so friendly giving us recommendations for playgrounds and outings for the kids. After brunch we drove to the village of Winnetka to see the house from Home Alone. The boys could not believe their eyes! It was so fun to see the house in person and S kept asking if those were the stairs to the basement where Marv fell down. After our beautiful drive through Winnetka, we headed to Lincoln Park Zoo. The zoo was free and big and the boys loved snacking on the popcorn. After visiting the zoo we decided to have a snack in the open hatch of our rental car in the zoo parking lot then walk across the pedestrian bridge to North Ave Beach. The boys LOVED the beach!!! As soon as they took their shoes and socks off to walk onto the beach S said “I forgot what sand feels like!” They ran and chased the waves and played in the sand while I enjoyed the sunshine. It’s the perfect beach with small waves, lifeguards, restrooms (located in the giant building shaped like a boat), and awesome views of the skyscrapers in downtown Chicago. At the end of the day as the sun began to set and Cole was wrapping up work, I packed up the boys and drove us back to the hotel while stopping at Potbelly for dinner on their patio. It was a PERFECT day in the Windy City!
