Diamond Head & Ko Olina, O’ahu, Hawaii

Notes from Saturday, February 2: Looks rainy, but boys want to climb Diamond Head. Pack sandwiches, snacks, water, sun block. Drive to Diamond Head parking lot. Sun is out, still a lot of people. Wait in line for parking, get ready to hike. Boys hike, C wears H in backpack baby carrier. Go all the way to top of Diamond Head! Trail, stairs, tunnel, spiral stairs, bunker. The boys did awesome! Beautiful views, sunshine, blue ocean! V wears H in baby carrier on the hike back down. Boys tired but did so well! Sit under tree, eat lunch, boys run and play in the grass (volcano crater floor). They meet a new friend and chase and run together. Pack up and drive to Ko Olina. Boys sing Jungle Book’s “I Wanna Be Like You” the whole way. H falls asleep and then S falls asleep. Arrive at Lagoon 4 parking lot. Super long line for free parking. We pay $10 for Marina parking next door. Get comfy on beach on towels while boys dig and play on beach and ocean. C takes S and R out on boogie board. Lagoon is calm and perfect for the kids. Play on beach, lay on towels, boys play lots in the waves. Boys jump and splash together so cute and so happy. Time to go and shower off then change to warm dry clothes and get in car. Drive back and stop in Kapolei. Eat dinner, drive home, boys take turns telling spooky stories, H asleep, drive back to Hawaii House. Get ready for bed, read Lion Witch and the Wardrobe, boys go to bed. What a wonderful day!
