1. GYEONGBOKGUNG

Gyeongbokgung is the main and largest of all the royal palaces in Seoul. It was built in 1395 and was the first and largest palace built in the Joseon Dynasty. Many Joseon kings were crowned here and the palace is a prime example of Joseon architecture. The 7,700-room palace is symbolic of the country and the Korean royal family. Visit the palace for a free guided tour, see the changing of the royal guard, or rent a traditional hanbok (traditional clothing) at a nearby shop. Wearing hanbok when visiting Gyeongbokgung is very popular among visitors. It is a unique and beautiful way to enjoy the palace and also visitors wearing both traditional and modernized hanbok are eligible for free admission! Gyeongbokgung is a must-see for anyone visiting Seoul!

My children’s book, “Baby Go! South Korea” makes a visit to Gyeongbokgung. Link to books here!

2. BUKCHON HANOK VILLAGE

For many visitors to Seoul, Bukchon Hanok Village is a top destination. The village is walking distance from Gyeongbokgung or you can take the subway. Bukchon Hanok Village is one of the best areas for strolling and admiring over 900 traditional houses (hanok) dating from the Joseon Dynasty. It is also known for its cafes and Michelin restaurants!

Enjoy a view of the N Seoul Tower from Bukchon Hanok Village. The N Seoul Tower is also a very popular tourist attraction and provides 360-degree views of the city.

3. GWANGJANG MARKET

Gwangjang Market is one of the best places you can find Korean street food in Seoul. Established in 1905, it is one of the oldest and largest traditional markets with over 5,000 shops! It’s easy to get to by subway and open daily. Gwangjang Market is a definite must for food lovers!
