Neal’s Yard & Goodwin’s Court in Covent Garden, London, UK

After a delicious dinner in Covent Garden, we walk over to see nearby Neal’s Yard. This little collection of independent restaurants and shops is known as the most colorful corner of Covent Garden. Next we go see the “real” Diagon Alley at Goodwin’s Court. This little stretch of alleyway with ornate windows and gaslight lamps could easily be overlooked but it’s a charming walk down the narrow alley to admire the historic and picturesque architecture. The kids thought it was pretty neat and if you’re in the area definitely worth a visit!

Things to Know:

*Find entrances to Neal’s Yard on both Monmouth Street and Shorts Garden

*The colorful courtyard is named after a 17th-century developer who revitalized the previous warehouse space

*Goodwin’s Court is a hidden alleyway located between St. Martin’s Lane and Bedfordbury

*According to a nearby plaque, the row of shops was built in 1690 and was previously known as Fishers Alley

In an alleyway in Neal’s Yard you can find Bambi’s Princess Diana mural. It shows Princess Diana as Mary Poppins with an umbrella and Harrod’s bag floating over her grandchildren she never met. Next to it in pink it reads “You can be as naughty as you want just don’t get caught.”

Love all the pubs and storefronts in Covent Garden:

A walk through Goodwin’s Court feels like you’ve stepped back in time. The alleyway features historic Georgian architecture, bow-fronted windows, and gaslit lamps.
