We went ice fishing for the first time on Lake Minnetonka this winter and it was the absolute BEST! We rented an ice fishing house with Tonka West Guide Service on Lake Minnetonka outside of Minneapolis. When we arrived, the house was already warm, the holes already drilled, and the house was stocked with bait, rods, and everything we needed. The ice was 25 inches thick on the lake so we were told we could drive our 4Runner right out onto the ice and park next to the house. Our guide met us in their truck on the lake and we followed them right out. It was crazy being able to drive right out onto the frozen lake! The house was nice and warm when we arrived and our awesome guide got us set up and showed us how to get started on ice fishing. Right away all of our kids reeled in Bluegills and it was so much fun! Our guide left us to it and Cole and I had a blast with the kids. We kept getting bites and ended up reeling in 6 Bluegill before we decided to take a break and eat dinner (we packed sandwiches, soda, chips, and snacks). Once it was dark we switched our bait from wax worms (for Bluegill/Sunfish) to minnows for the Crappies. In the end we caught 18 fish! We had 6 Bluegill and 12 Crappies! We couldn’t believe it! The whole night was so much fun! We took 8 fish home to fry up and they tasted so delicious! We might have to make ice fishing an annual thing! Definitely a great experience ice fishing Lake Minnetonka with Tonka West Guide Service!
